Nigerians on Tuesday expressed dismay over the adjustment of the pump price of petrol to N162.44 per litre by the Federal Government.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige made this known at the end of a meeting with labour leaders which began around 9 pm on Monday and ended at 1:30 am on Tuesday.
Ngige said that the new price slash was a product of a joint committee of NNPC and labour representatives, which looked into ways of cutting costs.
Recall that last month, the fuel price was increased to N168, following the decision of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company to increase the ex-depot price of petrol from N147.67 per litre to N155.17 per litre in November.
However, Nigerians on social media reacted to the new reduction, stating that the FG must work towards bringing down the exchange rate between Naira and the dollar.
They also stated that the Federal Government should stop taken Nigerians for granted with their sudden reduction of fuel price despite deregulating the sector.
@Stallonengobua That’s no reduction.
@Babstinux Just this morning the Punch newspaper published petrol may rise to 180 naira this month. So what is this reduction news? I fear for Nigeria o. Everything scatter scatter. No coordination again. Which way Nigeria.
@Gabriel1Isaiah What is the reduction? They should get out Nigerians will not fill the impact even if you’re buying 10k worth of fuel there will be no difference, there will be no sustainable development in this country until Buhari and his cabinet members resign.
@bestboyfriend15 This people are just embarrassing themselves. When you wanted to increase, you increase by 20naira wen you want to decrease you decrease by 3naira. Who is the fool
@KennyIsGoat Thank you so much FG
