All is now set for the commencement of the membership registration in Lagos State scheduled to kick off on February 9, 2021.
Speaking to journalists at the end of a stakeholders meeting at the party secretariat, Acme, Ikeja on Monday, the party Chairman, Alhaji Tunde Balogun, said the meeting was to perfect the strategy to ensure a seamless exercise as it seeks to revalidate millions of its members in the State.
According to him, the party has mobilised men and material to ensure that any Nigeria above the age of 18 and willing to be a member of the party is registered during the exercise.
“We do not have any particular target, but we want to be sure that any Nigerian who is above 18 and willing to be a member of the APC is registered as many as we can.
“We are not closing our doors, we are opening our doors to other parties, there are members of PDP that have shown willingness and desire to join APC, and we will open our doors to them.”
Acknowledging that the process will be tedious, Balogun however said that the party has enlisted 8,000 registration officers across the polling units to facilitate the exercise.
He said the symbolic registration of President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina state was to officially flag off the process, while confirming that the exercise will begin in Lagos from Tuesday, February 9.
The process has started with the symbolic registration of Mr. President, there will be another symbolic registration of Baba Akande. So the process is on and it would start physically in Lagos on February 9.”
Making an observation, Jude Idimogu, a member of the House of Assembly representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, urged the party to ensure that non-Yoruba speaking residents of the state are carried along in the registration exercise, noting that many of them belong to the party while new members are ready to identify with them.
The stakeholders meeting members of the APC Registration Committee drafted by from the National Caretaker Committee in Abuja, as well as members of the House of Representatives, House of Assembly, Local Government Chairmen, Ward Chairmen, amongst others.
