Pay Attention To Flood Alerts – FG Warns States

The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency has cautioned the states and other stakeholders in the building and environment sectors to pay attention to the flood alerts.

On Wednesday, March 24, Clement Nze, the Director-General of the Agency informed the states to make efforts to alleviate flooding this year.

The Director General noted that last year 317 local governments in 36 states and the FCT were hit by flood. This destroyed large farms in Kebbi, Jigawa, Kano and others.

On ways to mitigate flooding this year, Clement advised the state and local governments to start clearing drainages and canals. He added that people who are likely to be hit by the floods should relocate to safer grounds before strong rains starts.
