Contemporary Highlife musician, Eugene Kwame Marfo, also known by his stage name, Kuami Eugene has lamented how the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus has jeopardized their jobs as musicians.
Speaking in an interview with Brown Berry on the ‘Ryse N Shyne’ show on YFM, Kuami Eugene said that gone are the days where musicians used to make their incomes through their crafts by performing at events with huge crowds.
But, during the era of COVID, these things have been halted and now, musicians are not able to cash out like they used to.
He said that their job as a musician involves people and now that they cannot gather more than 25 people at an event, it makes their job very disheartening in this era.
Every hardworking musician prepares for the future. Just like we not preparing for COVID-19, now, being a musician is the most difficult job everywhere. This is because our job thrives with people. You have to be with people but now you can’t gather more than 25 people. More musicians are suffering, he said.
However, Kuami Eugene isn’t the only musician complaining about how the virus has slowed down their business. Although a few musicians like himself, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy still managed to break boundaries with their songs despite the outbreak of the virus, some were found wanting due to the restrictions imposed by the government as a way in curtailing the spread of the virus.
