BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Matawalle, others to APC Strategy, Conflict Resolution Committee
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, named among its key members.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday in Lagos as part of efforts to strengthen internal cohesion within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, the committee brings together governors, members of the Federal Executive Council, and other senior party stakeholders. Former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, will serve as Member/Secretary.
Other members of the committee include Senator Adamu Aliero; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; and Governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).
Also appointed as members are Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, and former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in the committee. He assured that members would discharge their responsibilities with diligence and a strong sense of purpose.
According to him, the committee would embark on strategic consultations and engagements aimed at developing an inclusive and results-oriented framework for resolving internal disputes and strengthening party unity.
“We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved members, a sense of belonging and inclusion, in line with the Renewed Hope vision,” Buni said, adding that the committee would also adopt proactive measures to address potential conflicts.
He urged members to place the collective interest of the party above personal considerations in the discharge of their duties.
President Tinubu had earlier underscored the importance of unity within the APC at the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting, held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. He reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on the ideals of progressive politics, inclusiveness, and respect for diverse opinions.
“We must continue to be resolute that this democracy must not fail,” the President said. “We must be accommodating. That is the only way we can remain resilient and tolerant.”
