Imo LG Elections: ISIEC Partners NSCDC On Security

The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission ( ISIEC) has reinvigorated the existing inter- agency understanding with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps( NSCDC). This move has also galvanised a template on how best to have an orderly and peaceful Local Government Council elections into the Chairmanship and Councillorship positions in the State.

This development was disclosed to newsmen after the ISIEC Chairman Chief Charles Ejiogu and Commissioners ended a courtesy visit to the Imo State Commandant of NSCDC Mr Matthew Ovye, in his office at the Command Headquarters Owerri.

Chief Charles Ejiogu lauded the NSCDC for the dedication to duty and enviable professionalism of its personnel and their measurable strides in ensuring orderly and peaceful conduct of the electorate during the last national elections and solicited empathy and support of NSCDC, as the ISIEC is working assiduously towards the conduct of the next Local Government Council elections, at the end of the ongoing consultations with critical stakeholders across the state.

It will be recalled that penultimate week, ISIEC commenced a whistle stop interface with critical stakeholders as a prelude towards the realisation of the Commission’s constitutional mandate of conducting a free, fair and credible Council elections in Imo State.

The ongoing sensitization shuttles will afford the Electoral Managements Body (ISIEC) the opportunity to interface with other security agencies, traditional institutions, town union leadership and professional/ trade groups in the state.
