Few weeks to a crucial World Cup qualifying face-off against eternal rivals Black Stars, the Nigerian National Team is still without a substantive head coach.
When German tactician Gernot Rohr was sacked in December, Augustine Eguavoen took over as interim boss but stepped down after the premature elimination of the Eagles from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Although the NFF announced the appointment of Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro in late December, Peseiro has failed to be unveiled even after the AFCON has concluded.
Reports suggest that Eguavoen has been offered the job permanently with Amuneke to support him. However, Amuneke has told the Sun Sports that he is unaware of any such offers or job appointments upon his return from Spain.
The next Super Eagles coach will have the immediate task of leading Nigeria to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, with a promising match against Ghana’s Black Stars, the only remaining stumbling block.
Ex-Barcelona winger Emmanuel Amuneke has an impressive CV just after a decade of switching playing for coaching. He began coaching in 2008 after bringing an end to a 13-year playing career.
Before taking charge of the Golden Eaglets and leading them to victory in the 2015 FIFA u-17 World Cup, the 51-year old also handled Julius Berger and Ocean Boys.
He then expertly went ahead to guide Tanzania to qualify for their second-ever appearance at the AFCON in Egypt 2019.
