Nigerians have welcomed the sack of Service Chiefs, noting that though coming rather late, it was the first step to tackling the growing insecurity in the country.
ON Tuesday afternoon a statement from the Presidency indicated that the Service Chiefs had resigned while their replacements were immediately announced.
Those involved are the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
They were immediately replaced with Maj.-Gen. Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Maj.-Gen. I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Adm. A. Z. Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff and AVM I.O. Amao, Chief of Air Staff.
The development sparked an immediate reaction from Nigerians on the social media space, most of whom felt the sack was rather belated.
But many welcomed the development saying it was rather late than never, while urging the new appointees to learn from the mistakes of their predecessors and ensure that the growing insecurity in the country is tackled headlong and without fear or favour.
