Gertrude Njar, the commissioner for women affairs in Cross River, has been kidnapped by gunmen.
Njar was abducted on Wednesday in Calabar, the Cross River capital.
NAN quoted a witness as saying the commissioner was forcefully taken out of her official car by masked young men.
The gunmen reportedly took her away in their car and abandoned her vehicle in the Calabar south area of the state.
Kalita Aruku, the special adviser on information to Ben Ayade, the governor, confirmed the incident.
“Yes, security sources have informed us that the commissioner for women affairs has been kidnapped,” he said.
“As we speak, security operatives have launched a manhunt for the kidnappers with a view to arrest them and rescue the victim unharmed.”
