‘I never received such offer’ — Obi says no private jets donated for his campaign

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has dismissed claims that some “eminent Nigerians” donated their private jets for his campaign.

Rumours surfaced over the weekend that the former Anambra governor got donations in terms of private jets to facilitate his campaign across the country.

The claim went viral on social media platforms, and elicited mixed reactions.

Critics of the presidential candidate had also latched onto the rumour to call him out, saying such contradicts his ideology.

But in a post on his Twitter page on Sunday, Obi said he has not received any such offer as claimed.

The former governor, however, said he appreciates “such expression of hopes”.

“Recently, several social media reports have alluded that some eminent Nigerians have donated their personal jets for my use during my campaign. In as much as I appreciate the expression of such hopes, I have never received any of such offer,” he wrote.

“I pray that those eminent Nigerians mentioned, are not unduly distracted by such social media utterances. May God Almighty bless those eminent Nigerians always.”

Obi is one of the leading candidates ahead of the 2023 presidential election alongside Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former governor also enjoys huge popularity on social media and a massive supporters’ base known as the ‘Obidients’.
