Meet Churemi: Port Harcourt’s Fast Rising Gospel Artiste And Guitarist

Churemi is a fast rising gospel artiste,  guitarist and a great poet. In this exclusive interview with AproTv, she talks about her  background, passion and music. Read the interview to find out more about her.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

My name is Chujor, Josephine Churemi. I am a multi-talented faculty, evolving as the years go by into dynamic expressions of God’s unfailing love and wonder. I am a Arts Creative, and my stage name is Churemi.
I am from Alesa community in Eleme Local Government of Rivers State. I was born on the 28th day of April, 1995 and have lived most of my years with my  family in Rivers State, where I also had my primary, secondary and tertiary education.
I am an ardent lover of God and people, a Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist, Children and Teenagers’ Coach.
I started out as a singer and songwriter at the age of 8. Writing songs about God and my dreams, ministering and performing in my local  Church and School’s choir, drama and music club.t

TELL US, HOW DID YOU GET INTO. MAKING MUSIC AND PLAYING THE GUITAR?

Well, I started out as a songwriter at age 8. I remixed a couple of songs and also wrote originals which graced my juvenilia. I tried learning how to play different instruments, but finally fell in love with the bass and guitar, but didn’t have any musical  instrument of my own.
By 2015, I could play the basics, but didn’t pay a lot of attention to my music at this point because of my education.  I graduated in 2018, just before I birthed my own guitar academy CLUB t3, and since then, I’ve gone pro on my playing skills.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC?

My music is about the Truth.
I basically translate Jesus’ opinions, as gotten from his words, into beautiful melodies and lyrics that inspire love and hope and fill us with life to think and live beyond ordinary standards and dictates of men.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?

Well I’m doing a lot of writing and learning in preparation towards a “Story EP” and my gospel album.

WHAT MAKES YOUR MUSIC UNIQUE?

Mostly my sound, which is tribal to a selected few.

ARE YOU INTO ANY FORM OF MUSICAL CONTRACT AT THE MOMENT?

No. I’m not.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE AS AN ARTISTE?

Honestly, nothing has. Most of the things we creatives describe as challenges are merely GROWTH PHASES. I’ve learned to enjoy every phase of growth I evolve into and I never define myself by a phase or moment.

ARE YOU A SPIRITUAL PERSON?

Oh, Yes. I am a very Spiritual person.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING AN ARTISTE?

What I enjoy most is the pleasure of expressing my Passion and fulfilling God’s Purpose for my life all together.

HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR GUITAR?

I make sure it’s kept properly in its stand on the floor or hung tightly to the wall. I wipe out dust from its parts and prevent moist or any fluid from coming in contact with especially the box (wood). I also avoid unnecessary handling by non guitarists. I avoid dropping my electric acoustic forcefully on hard surfaces to prevent hardware malfunction.

WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU THINK MAKES A GOOD GUITARIST?

Besides being grounded on the fundamentals, every guitarist has a sound or expression that appeals to them: the unique continuum of this expressions plus a genuine originality defines a good guitarist to me.

WHO IS THE MAN IN YOUR LIFE?

Identity Withheld; but one of God’s greatest gifts to me and to this world.

WHAT IS POETRY TO YOU?

Poetry to me is culture, it’s a way of  expressing language, thoughts, characters, mood, passion and purpose in mere verses that unlock the mind and trap its soul in wonder.

SEEMS YOU COME FROM A LITERARY BACKGROUND…

Yes, I do.

TELL US ABOUT SOME OF YOUR NOTABLE POETIC WORKS

Most of my poetic works are embedded in my music: you’ll hear them in the 6-line verses, somewhere in the melo-raps or in the entire piece.

WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM YOU IN THE NEAREST FUTURE?

The unimaginable; Art stained with all shades of creativity and an evendown medium of the Love and Power of CHRIST.
