*ABUJA* — As the All Progressives Congress [APC] begins its screening process for National Assembly aspirants, questions are being raised over the readiness and suitability of Phillip Adeolu Tinubu to represent Ekiti South Federal Constituency 2.
Hon. Olumide Oshin, speaking on behalf of the Concerned Ekiti South Constituency 2 Progressive Youths, said simply submitting nomination forms, even with a retinue of supporters, does not qualify a candidate to effectively represent the people at the National Assembly.
“What we need is a credible, competent, and people-oriented representative,” Oshin stated. “Not someone who relies on thuggery and name-dropping to make a case for leadership.”
The criticism comes ahead of the party primaries, with Oshin and other constituents insisting that the next representative must be able to command respect, build influence, and deliver tangible dividends of democracy. They contend that effective representation requires both mental preparedness and the ability to articulate issues clearly and thoughtfully.
The debate intensified after Tinubu’s appearance at the screening exercise on Sunday at Treasure Suite, Abuja. According to multiple sources present, Tinubu allegedly told fellow aspirants at the auditorium that each should pay $50,000 to the screening committee to ensure a “smooth sail” through the process.
If confirmed, the statement would contravene the APC’s code of conduct and raise questions about the aspirant’s integrity and commitment to due process. The party has consistently maintained that its nomination process should be free, fair, and devoid of financial inducement.
Efforts to reach Phillip Adeolu Tinubu for comment on the allegations were unsuccessful as of press time.
Party officials have, however, reiterated that all aspirants will be assessed based on merit, party loyalty, and capacity to represent their constituencies effectively.
Ekiti South Federal Constituency 2 is expected to be one of the keenly contested races in Ekiti State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with stakeholders calling for a transparent process that produces a candidate capable of advancing the interests of the people at the federal level.
